Letter from the Founder of 1 Girl Revolution

A couple of years ago, on New Year’s Eve, I was frantically trying to figure out what my new year’s resolution was going to be — what it should be. I had become weary of the typical ones – a diet or a resolution to wake up earlier or not to hit snooze – I wanted to do something really special, something that had meaning and power – and something that had the capacity to affect more people than just me.

I began looking online for women’s stories, in hopes that one might spark an idea for me and my new year’s resolution. But, as I looked through the stories I found story after story of women and girls that were changing the world. These women were everyday women, just like you and me, who were changing the world through their lives in various ways. These women and their stories moved me deeply, and led to my deciding that my new year’s resolution would be to do good through my life, emulate these women, and strive to be a 1 Girl Revolution.

From that moment, I continued to collect any and all stories I stumbled upon, and a few years later, when I moved back to Detroit – I decided to launch 1 Girl Revolution as a podcast and multimedia enterprise in order to highlight these incredible women and girls and their world-changing stories.

1 Girl Revolution believes that: Every woman has a story. Every woman has a voice. And every woman has the power to change the world through her life. Every woman is a 1 Girl Revolution!

When I was a little girl, I was taught that I could be anything I wanted and that I had the power to change the world through my life. No matter what happened to me or what happened in my life, I was taught to rise above the struggles and hardships – and choose to be the light that the world so desperately needs. There is so much division and darkness in the world today, and so much that needs to change in our world. We have the power to be a light in the dark world, bring people together, and to be the change that we want to see in the world.

Women are the strongest, most resilient, powerful, courageous beings in the world. We truly have the power to change the world – but we have to see it, believe it, and choose to be the person we were created to be. And to choose to be the change we want to see in the world.

I am so excited to share 1 Girl Revolution with you and I hope that you find courage, strength, passion, perseverance, and inspiration through these women and their stories, just as I have. 1 Girl Revolution has changing my life, and opened my eyes and my heart in so many ways – and I hope these women and their stories do the same for you. 1 Girl Revolution continues to grow and evolve, and I’m so excited to see what the future holds. Thank you for believing in 1 Girl Revolution and for being a part of it. I am beyond grateful for each and every one of you!
