Episode 79: Brittany: Bringing Hope to the Families of Babies with Down Syndrome

Brittany Schiavone is the founder and Visionary-in-Chief of Brittany’s Baskets of Hope

Brittany Schiavone is the founder and Visionary-in-Chief of Brittany’s Baskets of Hope. Brittany’s Baskets of Hope is dedicated to bringing information, support, community, guidance, and hope to families welcoming babies with Down Syndrome into their lives. BBOH believes that all babies, no matter who they are or how they’re born, deserve to be celebrated, loved, and to know that they can achieve anything! Brittany says, “I believe people with Down syndrome can do anything—really, really anything!” And she is proof of that.

Brittany has drawn on her own experiences as a woman with Down Syndrome and her family’s experiences to help so many others through Brittany’s Baskets of Hope. Since delivering our first basket of hope in October 2016, we have now sent over 950 baskets of hope to families in all 50 states across the country (and Puerto Rico)!

Brittany’s Baskets of Hope delivers baskets to these families that say, “Congratulations!” and “Let’s celebrate!” Instead of, “I’m sorry,” as so many parents and families often hear. The baskets of hope offer parents and families the resources, connection, joy, and hope that they all deserve. BBOH is also dedicated to encouraging all people with Down Syndrome to stand in their power and show the world that they can do anything. They also work to advocate for those with Down Syndrome at schools, groups, and meetings, and online. And they’ve built an incredible community that emphasizes inclusion. No matter who you are or how you’re born, BBOH believes (as do we!) that you have purpose, you are worthy, and you are as unique as your fingerprints.

Brittany is the National Honoree of L’Oreal Paris Women of Worth, and as you’ll hear in this episode – many other awards! And they’re all so well-deserved. Brittany is incredible and we know that you’ll love her (and her mama, Sue!) as much as we do!
