Episode 105: Erica: Warrior Mama Advocating for Child Abuse Registry and Awareness

Erica Hammel is the warrior mama who is fighting for child abuse awareness

Erica Hammel is the warrior mama who is fighting for child abuse awareness and one of the leading advocates in the county for a child abuse registry. Erica’s son Wyatt is a survivor of Shaken Baby Syndrome and Erica has since dedicated her life to raising awareness about child abuse and working to pass “Wyatt’s Law” in Michigan and other states, which would create a registry of convicted child abusers and this registry would be available to the public, just like the sex offender registry is. Erica joins the 1 Girl Revolution podcast to share her powerful life story, Wyatt’s incredible story of overcoming all odds, her work to pass Wyatt’s Law, and so much more.

“I got a call from Wyatt’s father saying he had been rushed to the ER,” said Erica Hammel. “It can happen to anyone.” Erica’s son Wyatt was rushed to the ER on November 1st, 2013, because he had been shaken by Erica’s ex-husband’s girlfriend.

Child abuse is reported every 10 seconds and 5 children die a day from abuse in our nation.
