Episode 74: Krista’s Story: Transforming The Lives of Women and Their Families, One Step at a Time

Krista Linden, Founder of Step-by-Step

Krista Linden is a wife, mother of 7 daughters, and the founder of Step-by-Step, an organization which works to transform the lives of at-risk pregnant women, so they deliver healthy babies, embrace positive parenting, and establish safe homes and secure futures for themselves and their families.

During a student teaching experience, while Krista was still in college, she met a little girl named Leanne who had fetal alcohol syndrome. Krista had a life-changing experience through meeting Leanne, and years later, when she held her first baby in her arms, she pictured Leanne’s mother, and she knew in that moment that she wanted to dedicate her life to helping mothers be the best that they could be, so that every baby could have a healthy start in life and be given the best chance. At that moment, Krista set out to build stronger families and communities, in hopes that it would have a lasting effect on the lives of all Step-by-Step came in contact with.

Step-by-step strives to help every woman see her pregnancy as a catalyst for positive change. By building on her strengths, Step-by-Step helps women choose health, see hope for her future, and find ways to give back to their families and their communities.

Step-by-step believes that at the heart of every family is a built-in powerful force to fight against generational cycles of crime, poverty, and abuse – and a force to establish healthier individuals and families, and more vibrant communities. Step-by-step’s holistic program is relationship-based and participant-driven.

Step-by-Step has worked to…

  • Increase Prenatal & Infant Health
  • Lowering Infant & Maternal Mortality Rates
  • Breaking Cycles of Poverty & Abuse
  • Decreasing Dependence on Social Systems
  • Building Stronger & Safer Communities

Krista founded Step-by-Step in 1997, and it continues to grow and flourish to this day. It has helped thousands of women transform their lives and the lives of their families – and now serves over 1,200 women each year.

Krista’s story is so inspiring and powerful – and she will challenge you to look at your own life and at your community – and she will encourage you to look for ways that you can serve your community and help others.

In this inspiring episode, Krista shares her life story and the story about the little girl, Leanne, who was the spark that led to Step-by-Step. Krista shares how Step-by-Step came to be, about all of the incredible work they do, and how Step-by-Step has evolved into a social enterprise that is now employing mothers and fathers through all of the businesses and initiatives Step-by-Step includes. Step-by-Step is an innovative organization and social enterprise – and we’re really excited to share their work and Krista’s story with you.
