June’s Story: Teaching Mindfulness Meditation to Women in Jail
June Tanoue, co-founder of the Zen Life and Meditation Center of Chicago, volunteered to teach mindfulness meditation to women at the Cook County Department of Corrections (CCDOC) in Chicago. June’s work has helped the women in CCDOC see their value and purpose, to recognize that they are not the sum of their mistakes, and has helped them realize they are good, beautiful, and powerful beings – that they have the power to make a positive change in their lives and in the world. June truly is a 1 Girl Revolution and she continues to transform women’s hearts and minds through the power of meditation.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s Fight for Justice for Rape Victims
Detroit Prosecutor Kym Worthy found out that over 11,000 rape kits in the City of Detroit hadn’t been tested, callously put aside, unacknowledged, and un-prosecuted. Prosecutor Worthy fought for justice for these victims, tested over 11K rape kits, and brought hundreds of perpetrators to justice. And her fight for justice for rape victims continues in Detroit and nationwide.
Jada’s Story: Rising from the Ashes and Bringing Beauty to the World
Jada was addicted to drugs for many years, but finally went to rehab and got clean. She decided to go back to school and become an esthetician, because she had always loved makeup and beauty. Jada is the founder of the “Beauty from Ashes Project”, which provides beauty and spa services to women in recovery and survivors of addiction and human trafficking.
