Stacia McDonough, founder of Independence for Veterans, joins The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast to share her inspiring life story, her beautiful love story, and the incredible work she does to help veterans in need through her nonprofit organization, Independence for Veterans.
Stacia shares her life story and the beautiful story of how she met and fell in love with her late-husband, John. John was a decorated and enlisted Vietnam veteran who sacrificed everything for his country and the American people, and after his untimely passing – Stacia decided to help others who made a similar sacrifice.
In America today, there are over 40,000 veterans who are experiencing homelessness and so many others who are in need. Over 22 veterans commit suicide every single day. And so many others are struggling to find the help and support that they need. That’s where Stacia and Independence for Veterans comes in.
Independence for Veterans sparked out of a clothing drive that Stacia did for veterans years ago and their work has continued to evolve and grow to include so many other projects and programs. Stacia and Independence for Veterans strive to help with anything and everything that veterans need help with – whether it be providing housing, resume writing and finding a job, clothing, food, paying their bills, or literally anything else they need.
Independence for Veterans’ is currently running a “Feed Our Heroes” Drive to fill the food pantry at the local shelter and in the past two weeks they have hand-delivered $11,000 worth of groceries and brand new clothing. And they’re only halfway through the drive. You can find out more here.
