Episode 58: Elizabeth’s Story: Eradicating Human Trafficking and Finding Your Purpose and Freedom Through Rest and Action

Elizabeth Melendez Fisher Good, Co-founder of Selah Freedom and CEO/Co-founder of Selah Way Foundation

Elizabeth Melendez Fisher Good is the co-founder of Selah Freedom, and the CEO and co-founder of Selah Way Foundation. And she is the author of the new book, Groomed

In 2011, Elizabeth Melendez Fisher Good co-founded one of the nation’s leading anti-sex trafficking organization, Selah Freedom, which has provided services to thousands of at-risk children and survivors, educated millions and mobilized thousands of volunteers across the country. Under her direction, Selah Freedom and their work has thrived, which led to the founding of The Selah Way Foundation, which is a global network of leading service providers with three initiatives: Prevention, Protection and Provision. The goal of these initiatives is work ahead of this critical issue in hopes of eradicating sex trafficking in our nation and becoming a model and training arm for the international community.

Elizabeth has dedicated her life to eradicating sex trafficking and exposing the root of the issue, which is childhood sexual abuse. In her new book, “Groomed“, she uses her own story of abuse, family tragedy, and rebellion, to discuss the “grooming” epidemic and while it’s oftentimes subtle, it’s always life-altering. In her book, Elizabeth offers ways for all of us to overcome their past and she emphasizes what she believes to be the critical, yet rarely used idea of a selah, which means “a time of rest and reflection”, and she then explores active ways to forgive and move forward towards freedom.

Elizabeth has been described as, “part healer, part businesswoman, all resolve—if Selah Freedom is bringing light into the darkness, as the slogan says, then she is the one behind the megawatt.”

In this episode of the 1 Girl Revolution podcast, Elizabeth talks about her own inspiring life story, what she’s had to overcome in her life and how’s she gotten to where she is today, how Selah Freedom and the Selah Way Foundation came to be, more about the incredible work that they’re doing everyday to combat human trafficking and unlock freedom to those who have been shackled by trafficking and abuse, the programming and support they are providing for survivors, the prevention programs for children and parents, their work with law enforcement and medical professionals, her new book “Groomed”, and so much more! We also talked about her powerful Tedx Talk, which is linked here: “Sex Trafficking in Our Own Backyard”.
